“2022” ([P], “O”, “S”, “CC”) Fantasy Over-Struck Morgan Dollars – Production Blog

All are over-struck on genuine (circa 1878-1921) US Mint Morgan Silver Dollars.

Morgan Dollars were originally minted from 1878 to 1904, and then again in 1921. 100 years later, the US Mint issued 2021-dated Morgan and Peace dollars. In mid-2022 the US Mint announced that they were scrapping plans for 2022 Morgan and Peace dollars due to the unavailability of silver blanks. But the announcement indicated that the US Mint intended to resume production of Morgan and Peace dollars with 2023 dates, after skipping 2022.

Now available are these modern over-strike "2022" Morgans. They are over-struck on genuine Morgan silver dollars of 1878-1921, they have the correct weight (no metal is added or removed), correct metallic content, and correct diameter. All the over-strikes are privately and painstakingly performed using a surplus Denver Mint coin press. Four privy-mark versions are available: Philadelphia [P]; New Orleans “O”; San Francisco “S”; and Carson City “CC”.

NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
