“1879” Liberty Head “V” Nickel – Production Blog

All are over-struck on genuine US Mint Liberty Head “V” nickels of 1883 (without “CENTS”), unless otherwise noted.
A few were broad-struck and/or multiply struck with moderate shift between strikes.

Liberty Head “V” nickels were originally issued for circulation from 1883 to 1912. Five unofficial pieces were also produced at the US Mint with a “1913” date. Some early patterns were dated 1881 and 1882. No Liberty Head “V” nickels were originally issued with a “1879” date.

NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
