“1920-D” Fantasy Over-Struck Morgan Dollars – Production Blog

All are over-struck on genuine (circa 1878-1921) US Mint Morgan Silver Dollars.

Morgan Dollars were originally minted from 1878 to 1904. After 17 years, Morgan Dollars were minted again for one more year in 1921. For the 1921 issue, the entire coin was re-sculpted and so it has sculptural differences compared to the earlier mintages. No Morgan Dollars were minted with a “1920” date and no silver dollars were produced at the Denver Mint prior to 1921. This “1920-D” over-strike is modeled after the 1921 sculpt.

Now available is this modern over-strike "1920-D" Morgan. These are over-struck on genuine Morgan silver dollars, they have the correct weight (no metal is added or removed), correct metallic content, and correct diameter. All the over-strikes are privately and painstakingly performed using a surplus Denver Mint coin press.

NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
