“1914” Liberty Head “V” Nickel – Production Blog

All are over-struck on genuine US Mint Liberty Head “V” nickels (circa 1883-1912), unless otherwise noted.
A few were broad-struck and/or multiply struck with moderate shift between strikes.

Liberty Head “V” nickels were originally issued for circulation from 1883 to 1912. Five unofficial pieces were also produced at the US Mint with a “1913” date. No Liberty Head “V” nickels were originally issued with a “1914” date.

NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.

Current Status:

Die Pair 1 (large date) was used for a few test strikes only. Die Pair 2 (small date) production has ended. The large date style was originally used on Liberty Nickels from 1883 to 1906. The small date style was used from 1907-1912, as well as the infamous clandestine 1913 issue.
